Beauty Saloons @ Telawi streets

Hello all!

It's getting very very warm these days due to Chinese New Year, but because of the weather condition,we have clear dark blue skies at night. What is so special about it? It is the stars.Yes yes, again, tonight Bangsar's sky is twinkling .Do you all even care about bangsar skies?hmmpppp...

Any hows,Chinese New Year is coming and I am sure us girls would want to look our very very best . I do not know if it is a Chinese tradition or what but whenever  i go back to my mom's hometown at Seremban, relatives will comment on how you look, whether you gone prettier,or you put on weight after not seeing you for a year. Hence, instead of pigging during this festive season, some of us have to control the temptation to gobble down all those oh-so-yummy-cookies. My favorites are prawn role, some white shape dragon cookie, pineapple rolls, and  "ah-cat " served with prawn crackers.

Well, for people living in Bangsar,I am sure it is no surprise that not only is Telawi Street flooded with boutiques ,but also saloons ,beauty house, whatever people call it these days run mostly by Punjabis or Indians. One of the services most sought-after by us ladies (in my opinion) would be threading,as eyebrows, believe it or not makes a lot of differences to a person's appearance. Passing by one of the beauty saloons today,i spotted "threading for man".It is something really strange and new as i have never heard about it before owh well.=)

One of the most well-do beauty saloons, would be Saluga's Beauty House.A shop located on the second floor right opposite Bangsar Village Two ,always sardine-pack with people .A lot of people i know goes to this one. Most of the beauty house provides service such as threading,waxing,manicure,pedicure,make-up service, hair cuts, facial and etc.

Saluga's was where i first got my first threading and the pain was unbearable ,but no pain,no gain right,so whenever i felt like shaping the forest  on my face,i will just head over there for threading at a price of RM5( It is the standard price for threading).  I wanted to try out their manicure service since it is only RM25 but that time, the manicurist was preoccupied( They only have one manicurist) .So far,I think this is the CHEAPEST place to have a manicure done and they use OPI products too.So ,no harm trying right.

Few doors away from Saluga, there is another beauty saloon name Sheela's Beauty Saloon . I have only been to this place once, which was few days ago to get my nails done.At Sheela's it is RM35 for a manicure and since I was desperate,i decided to give it a try.The place is however quite empty, maybe because i went in the morning on a weekday .They too, have a collection of OPI products and other brands. So ,here is how the manicure went, she soaked my hands in a container of water(i think, looks like water to me), massage my hand with some sort of cucumber scrub, wash it off, shape my nails, cut of the cuticles and clean it with some cuticle gel, apply foot scrub(the label on the bottle says FOOT SCRUB) on my hand and  massage ,and then wipe it off, paint my nails and put some quick dry thing.

Notice anything wrong here?I am sure girls who often do manicure will notice, they left out the top coat and base coat.Fine,I will close an eye about the base coat as i doubt the color i chose (bubble bath from OPI) (A lot of their colors are dried up so if you are looking for a variety, try elsewhere)will stain my nails. But what about the top coat! And no,i did not keep quiet about that so i question her.She said those quick dry thing they added on my nails is considered as top coat.

Well we all know that top coat is to protect the nail lacquer so it will last longer,so without that, seriously,my manicure only lasted me a day.I had small chips here and there at the end of the day.And I also found out that top coat is top coat ,quick dry is quick dry! they are two seperate items which must be applied(www.opi.com).

I do not know if they were trying to cheat me or this is their way of doing it.It is not like they do not have base coat and top coat polish. They do! but why deprived me from those?T.T

My advice?Do not go back there for a manicure!.You can try out other services if you want to.

Next, would be one of the newly open saloons name Pammi Beauty Saloon located at Jalan Telawi 2(opposite Devi's corner row).It is a newly open saloon and my sister was the one who brought me here.Looks very homely, nicely decorated ,not really pack so there is no need to wait a thousand years to be done with.Overall,it looks like a pretty neat place to me.I personally tried the pedicure there. They are professional ,no doubt,no mistakes done,no applying, rubbing off and applying again. After a chit chat with them,my sister found out that they are actually from Glitters.Lucky us!=)

Since its newly open, they do not have a wide range of colors ,but they said they will be adding more soon to their collection. In addition to that, they also have 'Gellish Nail Polish' ( i hope i got the spelling right). It is way more expensive as it last longer( A month-according to them) and also,it hardens your nails. So it is good news for people who have soft nails and can never grow them long as they keep breaking.(Just so you know, one bottle of gelish nail polish cost more than a bottle of OPI). So far,Pammi is the only saloon that offers gelish nail polish ,i am talking about these kind of all-in-one saloons .Google it and you will read many review about how it last very long.=)

Also,my sister tried the bikini wax there too,and when i asked her how was it.She said "clean".hahaha.So yes,Pammi is looking good to me.=)

Another one of the many saloons i have tried is First Impression Beauty Saloon.Hard to miss as it is exactly opposite Devi's Corner ,above KK Mart,PINK in colour, there is a banner promoting wigs but the wig shop have long close down. Been there for threading with my friends.Threading here does not hurt as much as at Saluga's . The price is the same.Only one person doing the threading so hence, you have to wait for your turn. There is a small boutique selling  punjabi clothes and accessories adjoined to the shop .Overall, not bad.=) If you were to google it,there is a first impression beauty saloon in UK and Penang.I do not know if it is the same though.

So far, these are the only one i have tried. There are others like ,CN Health and Beauty(Telawi 2-same row as KK Mart) and Tara's Beauty( same row as McDonalds).

For more information on prices and services,do visit their facebook page=)

I could not find the links to the rest of the saloons.Sorry!=(

Have fun beautifying ur'self girls :)

New Year's Eve

Happy New Year to all!2012 started off happily for me, i hope yours did too. My friends and I always celebrate new year's just among ourselves,we enjoy only each other companies,a glass of alcohol just enough to boost our craziness and we usually avoid the crowds cause the thought of getting squash up by people just does not appeal to us.I do miss the fireworks though. For three years in a row, we've been going to D' Haven at Telawi Street 3  ,in fact, Bangsar is so dead now  that ,during new years thanks to the police officers, we conquered the whole top floor last year.It was just us and the workers.

This year, after much discussion on where to have dinner, we decided to have dinner at Antipodean Cafe at Jalan Telawi 2,its located opposite Devi's Corner row. Strangely,I 've never heard of this restaurant before despite walking by Telawi streets about a hundred times.

The waiters  was all smileys when we got there,it's a cozy place where there are small tea pot candles lit up on each table along with a small jar of pretty flowers.I loved it the moment we stepped in. They ushered us to our table and i have to give extra credits to their service.A friend of mine complain that it was pretty warm,so we shifted tables, and  later, before our food arrive, one of the friendly waiters ushered us to another place with better air-conditioning . Are we royalty or what?hehe.
The Menu=)

Antipodean cafe does not have a menu like any other restaurants, their menu is on a black board on the walls written out beautifully .So it's a common scene if you see people standing up in the middle of the walkway and staring at the ceilings.Lucky for us,our table was facing the menu .

Pumpkin,Sage and Feta Pasta
I notice that they have a wide selection of caffeinated drinks .My friend mentioned that they have this huge-ass coffee making machine ,I was tempted to order a cup but in the end,we just ordered water because we were planning to try out the bubble tea at Bubbles located just opposite the street .

We didn't wait long for our meal to arrive,at least that is what i think. We ordered Pumpkin,Sage and Feta Pasta ,Beef Kebab with Couscous and Beef Burger.

Pumpkin isn't really my kind of delicious food but it was the only pasta they serve,so we decided to give it a try. The pasta is dress with feta cheese on the top ,who knows that mixing cheese and pumpkin could taste so delicious. You can definitely taste the pumpkin ,but it wasn't too much, just enough to make it a nyamnyam meal!

The beef kebab? was amazingly juicy and chewy . You can either choose to dip it with yogurt or like what me and my friend did, we ate it with ketchup. The couscous, however,is not my cup of tea,i guess there's just too much spices in it and i am not a fan of raisins.
Beef Burger

I dont know how the beef burger taste like, but the person who ordered it ,had it before the first time he came and is having it again.Go figure=)

The prices of food is average (around RM20+/-) and the food is delicious. One thing for sure,we are definitely going back there to try out their breakfast menu. =)

Bangsar:Tonight's  sky is filled with bright twinkling stars and a half moon. From my car porch,it looks beau~tiful to me.

Till then,Happy New Year again!
